We wanted an inexpensive and portable way to watch movies on a big screen that we could take with us in the car when traveling with friends. We bought a $20 100-inch projection screen but then needed a way to properly support it. I came up with this design which can be easily taken apart and packed into an old ski bag. I just used construction grade 1 x 4 (nominal) SPF and trimmed 1/4 inch off each edge to make them nice and square, and finished it with cedar-coloured deck stain. Half lap joints were used at the bolted connections of the frame to help keep it square and not sag under its own weight. At 20 lb it's quite a bit heavier than support stands available on Amazon, but it's also very sturdy and can easily be used outdoors. And there's the satisfaction of having made it yourself and getting complements on it.
